I read some newsblurb today the quote from a pretty sophisticated and well-regarded small business start-up and incubator organization's director who said: I was talking to an associate and he mentioned his nonprofit's need to develop a business plan and that made me stop and think: nonprofits need business plans too! The article was trumpeting that this coming spring would be the first time this incubator would have a nonprofit in its cohort.
Duh! Why on earth does anyone think that understanding my market; thinking about the strategies to best serve that market (offering features and benefits, pricing, distribution, communications); financials and risks; is unique to for-profits? Come-on please! Nonprofit execs have the exact same challenges with what the matter a business plan addresses as any small or large business. Period. End of sentence!
