Steve Bannon is back in the news having been swept off a yacht of an insurrectionist rich Chinese businessman (is that really a "thing") by the Feds for raising money that appears not to have been used for the "charitable" purposes it was intended. I can't even begin to see how building a border wall even qualifies as a charitable activity and that's on the IRS. And of course there's not one but at least 3 nonprofits of dubious purpose, origin and fundraising activity according to ProPublica and Salon.
But when I consider the situation the real crux of the problem is governance and accountability for which governance should be focused. Put in column a and b a 0 as that appears to be the reality and fail. The sham board should be severally and collectively held responsible for this debacle and Bannon, as a board member won't get lost in the fray. But really, how did these folks get to be nonprofits in the first place?
Yes, governance matters and specifically for protecting the interest of the public which at minimum, these folks did. "Lock them up" as is the current popular phrase but in this case - perfectly appropriate.
