The President/CEO of the Central Park Conservancy had published in the New York Times Opinion Page a piece focused on how steady growth in donations and volunteers and creative management and time has enabled the Central Park Conservancy to grow, prosper and be successful. The article notes that other groups no where near as established as the Conservancy should understand that they too can use the learnings from the Conservancy to arrive at the same place.
I concur and would offer that the one ingredient not cited was the Conservancy's Board. The Conservancy's has attracted some very powerful and active board members who I would offer have played a significant role in bringing the Conservancy to its present place in the world. Yes, to fundraising and volunteerism and management but equally important, a board that cares, is involved and gives.
