90% of the nonprofit boards I know are always looking for new and good board members. Always! Now it's true that many of these boards are not looking for people to fill gaps in governing (policy and planning) -- they are often really looking for new volunteers and free advice (you know: smart people who have specialty knowledge).
Well, according to the NY Times article on Baby Boomers are a pool of folks waiting to be tapped. Yes, there's a science in really tapping these folks but that's a different story. But before looking closer at this group a reminder that for nonprofits looking for board members, be sure you really are looking for people to govern. If you need free advice, for a work group and ask volunteers to do that with a very specific task and timeline and maybe not even reporting to the board.
That said,check-out the Times article for some tips on thinking about Boomers -- a possible source of board members.
