It is my belief that the public views a nonprofit, because it is not motivated by profits, as special. When a nonprofit adopts practices that tarnish its image, I believe that it is the board's duty to step in, although I'll admit the board should have stepped in when it first learned that its nonprofit had adopted less than stellar practices.
