The type of relationship between a Board Chair and Exec is likely viewed outside of an organization as always harmonious, maybe even seamless.
But is it always this way on the inside and particularly during challenging times like these? That is the question Susan Neustrom is asking in her research work and in the process she is developing some interesting frameworks that may help these two leaders understand when change is needed.
Here's four relationship types Susan is proposing: Harmonizer, Missing Link, Miscommunicator, Adaptor. And yes, the type could be either or both leaders. I'll leave you to think about the consequences of each.
