WEER regrets to tell you that we did not get the financial support needed to pay out basic costs such as the music rights payment and our tower costs. Unless something changes before this Tuesday Feb 15th WEER will no longer exist. We still believe in our goals and we sincerely thank those of you who supported us. So unless there is a last minute reprieve, we must say goodbye this coming Tuesday. WEER East End Radio Hampton Community Radio 88.7 FM.
This is the message being broadcast and which is on WEER's website. It is a particularly sad message I would think for WEER and hopefully, for the future of community radio (which I believe just got a new lease on life from the US government) not a message that will be heard often. On the one hand though, maybe this is an opportunity for a partnership where good content and commitment can be joined with a more resourced entity. Or perhaps, it's just a really good fundraising pitch that, let's face it, can pretty much be tried only once, at least this year.
Anyway, the time where there is just not enough resources for every nonprofit may be at hand. Is this a sign about the future of the nonprofit sector?
