Yes, I've been blogging for just over a year now. About four months ago, maybe a little longer, I linked my blog to my twitter and facebook. To be honest, I don't really fully understand this social media marketing stuff but I am trying to get up to speed and get into the groove and I don't think I am alone in either my intentionality or level of knowledge or experience. I think those in the nonprofit sector are similarly challenged and are seeking out all kinds of ways of getting up to speed themselves including cornering experts and reading.
I recently came accross one book that has provided me with some great aha's about the social media marketing world. I give it two-thumbs-up at least as a strong introduction to the topic. Perspectives on Social Media Marketing (Course Technology CENGAGE Learning 2011) offers a lot of, 89 to be precise, "chapters" that are brief, concise and, for the most part, informative around some aspect of the use of social media for marketing purposes.
Stephanie Agresta, a social media and digital strategy expert at a mega PR firm; B. Bonin Bough, the director of digital and social media at Pepsi; and, Jay Miletsky, a consultant and author on these topics are the guides throughout the book. Their answers to carefully crafted and utilitarian questions are the core fodder of the book, organized by topic in the table of contents that permits thinking about one particular element rather than having to read the whole book.
It is the wide-ranging content and thoughtful organization of this book that makes this a handy tool for any nonprofit manager faced with the task of entering into this world.
