Warren Buffett's annual auction of lunch with him to benefit the Glide Foundation (San Francisco) has come around again. Last year, Mr. Buffett's lunch net $1.68 million from the highest bidder. Glide is fortunate to have gained Mr. Buffett's attention. And, unlike most nonprofit fundraising, there's no cost to Glide. All Glide must do is pursue its mission.
My takeaway from this event: there's still a lot of money out there and there are still people willing to spend a lot of money to get certain needs met (like making more money). And, affirming what I knew: a nonprofit with connections to the "right" people can be really successful even when times are really hard from most.
