I've regularly been asking the question: why are private colleges tax-exempt? What is REALLY charitable about private colleges given their high tuitions and deep pockets (buildings and investments) and the proportional few who may get a financial break unless they themselves bring something to the table (e.g. athletic skills)?
Well, investors have recently purchased Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. And no, I don't know the numbers or even what's going on in Blair, Nebraska. The fact remains, we should be applying a "charitability test" on private college tax exemptions. That they can be appealing to investors reinforces my position.
