I had the good fortune of falling into a Q&A with the President of the College Board. The College Board is the SAT people. The Q&A question of the President is as follows:
"....is the College Board really nonprofit? Why does testing cost so much? Where does the money go?"
The President's answer can be found here and interestingly an almost identical answer can be found on the College Board's 990 (Guidestar).
So, in case you were wondering, all this testing and advocacy costs a lot -- like, $582 million in 2007. But not to worry, sales and some memberships helped produce a $39 million surplus.
Nonprofit?
