A federal jury last week convicted five former officers of a Muslim charity of funneling more than $12 million to Hamas, a Palestinian militant group on the State Department's list of terrorist organizations. See fed press release here.
While I certainly don't have all the details for either side, I do think it's important to consider the lesson that nonprofit board members, simply by their status as board members and not staff, may and can be held accountable for the actions of the nonprofit's staff. In other words, oversight and outcomes count.
